How it all started
When we purchased Blackjack Farm in the spring of 2011 we had big ideas. Our desire to create a boutique style stable kept our focus on the small details. Building a facility that would support our commitment to the health and fitness of our horses was our task. Working with warmblood horses imported from Europe, we sought to train the ideal showjumping horse. The American Forward Riding style was developed for the light and forward thinking thoroughbred horse. We have adapted our training system to incorporate foundational dressage, groundwork and positive reinforcement. This holistic approach to training has produced a better outcome for the heavier and colder warmblood type horse.
Where we are now
Over the past decade we have continued to enhance the property and its’ offerings. We added a eurocisor, built a round-pen we lovingly call the “mexigon” because it’s a feat of Dionicio’s Mexican ingenuity, enhanced the trail that goes up and down and all around the property, added a breeding facility and more. But even with all this, it was adding an Airbnb in 2020 that broadened our view of how we fit in the world at large. Horse people tend to stick to a small circle. Our expanded circle that resulted from meeting so many amazing people through Airbnb has helped us see ourselves and our potential contribution as bigger than just training horses.
How do I get involved?
Currently we offer two online training programs; Flat Camp and Applied Groundwork. If you’re looking for an in-person experience please contact Robin directly. A limited number of dates are available for Horse and Rider to stay at Blackjack Farm for a 3 or 5 day in-person edition of Flat Camp or our Groundwork course.
